Sports betting is the general activity of predicting sports results by making a wager on the outcome of a sporting event. Perhaps more so than other forms of gambling, the legality and general acceptance of sports betting varies from nation to nation. In North America, for example, sports gambling is generally forbidden, while in many European nations, bookmaking (the profession of accepting sports wagers) is regarded as an honorable occupation and, while highly regulated, is not criminalized.

The Kansas City Chiefs signed free agent kicker Jay Feely to a one-year contract Monday.
Feely played for Miami last season, converting 21 of 23 field goals and all 26 PAT attempts. He kicked for the New York Giants in 2005-2006 and Atlanta from 2001-2004. While kicking for the Giants, Feely worked with current Chiefs special teams coach Mike Priefer.
The Chiefs also agreed Monday to a three-year contract with tight end Michael Merritt of Central Florida, one of the team's two seventh-round draft picks.

The Buffalo Bills ruined Indianapolis' grand opening celebration Sunday night. Matt Ryan will be the Atlanta Falcons' starting quarterback this season. The No. 3 overall draft pick was chosen Sunday by first-year Falcons coach Mike Smith, who indicated that Ryan will likely play just the first series of Atlanta's preseason finale Thursday night at Baltimore.
The Falcons, who went 4-12 last year, host Detroit to begin the regular season on Sept. 7.
Ryan began training camp last month second on the depth chart behind Chris Redman, but the rookie was poised enough in a preseason win Friday over Tennessee to win the job.
